Had Rainbrow Brite just undergone a pixie cut? With bunch after bunch of technicolor hair extension glowing in the window of the Boulder, CO salon, I knew what had to be done.
I snuck inside, happy to find that the little shop was open quite late and accepted walk-ins. The stylist presented the chromatic array of options ranging from Malibu Barbie pink to lighting bolt yellow to a regal forest green. But it was the Yves Klein blue that just felt right.
About fifteen minutes and some flat-ironing later, I emerged a (1/2000th) blue-ette.
The blue streak felt punk, badass, and remarkably chic. With my hair down, it showed just the right amount, killing it with leggings and tees and cocktail dresses alike. A way cooler accessory than a statement necklace, it wasn't totally shocking when about six days into my new look, the Internet exploded with pics of Alexa Chung sporting a virtually tie-dyed mane. Copycat.
Those were the days.
Now, the time has come to say R.I.P to the blue. It ripped right out my hair while I was combing this morning. I threw it right in the garbage. After all, a tough girl like me never shows her weak side.
